Bishops men’s team played host to Consett Golf Club in the 2nd round of the Mail on Sunday team event recently. The Bishops team consisted of Graham Milne, Brett Collingwood, Wayne Hewitt, Chris Thompson and Jamie Birkbeck.
The weather was cold but dry and windy, however a number of hardy supporters including Club Captain Bill Johnson turned up to cheer on the team. At the half way point Bishops had control of two of the matches, with Graham Milne and Jamie Birkbeck producing quality golf to lead comfortably. The other 3 matches were all a lot closer, however Bishops triumphed in the end as Wayne Hewitt birdied the 18th hole of his match to win and Chris Thompson halved the 18th hole of his match to win 1 up.
Brett Collingwood had a tough encounter, and whilst giving a number of shots in his match, finally lost out. So Bishops progress to the 3rd round with a fantastic 4- 1 victory, with Captain Bill buying the lads and team manager a victory pint at the 19th.
