West Auckland Town looked to overcome local rivals Shildon and secure a place in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round in an eagerly anticipated clash.
The first half was a fairly even affair, with slim chances for both teams, and the second half started in similar fashion.
However, it was Shildon who capitalised on the best chance of the game, as Ben Reay scored the winning goal in the 71st minute.
Shildon will take some small measure of revenge for last season’s promotion play-off defeat at the hands of West and are set to face Warrington Town at home in the First Round Qualifying.
West took out their own frustrations on Silsden in their first home Northern Premier League East Division match in midweek, scoring three second half goals to record their first league win at this level.
Goals from O’Gorman (65), Harrison (72) and Shields (78) to no reply saw off their visitors.
West now prepare for the journey to Ashington on Saturday when they will play their first ever FA Trophy tie before a visit to Dunston next midweek.
