Young cricketers from a North East education trust were bowled over after getting the chance to play alongside members of the UK's premier cricket club.

Members of the Site Maintenance Team at King James I Academy have raised over £1,000 for charity by completing a gruelling hike in the Lake District.

Plans to expand opening days and extend licensed operating hours at Kynren have been approved by councillors.

Kynren is set for its biggest expansion yet after operators applied for permission to dramatically increase the number of show days and extend opening hours. 

The cast behind Kynren – The Storied Lands assemble for one of the first times against the stunning backdrop of the park’s 2,500-seater eagle's nest-inspired Lost Feather arena - ahead of its official opening on 18 July.

The House of Smudge will be closing its doors after 8 years, on the 18th of July, due to problems with the lease terms and rent increase. But Smith is hopeful: “This isn't the end of the journey, simply a pause before the next chapter begins.“

The author, Lesley Johnson, is a Bishop Auckland resident, and her second children's book, “Reggie’s Moonlight Adventure", has just been put onto the market.

West Auckland councillor, Stephen Gray, has called for urgent progress on plans for a pedestrian crossing at the newly built Bishop Auckland Retail and Leisure Park, warning that local residents are increasingly concerned about safety on the busy route between the Sainsbury’s side of the development and the retail park itself.
