Bishop Auckland Town Council is continuing to invest in events and local initiatives that bring residents and visitors together, support the local economy and celebrate the town’s rich cultural heritage.
The council’s programme of support continues throughout the year, with a range of free and family-friendly events offering something for everyone.
And behind the programme, the council’s office team works hard to develop and coordinate this wide range of community-focused ideas.
Until Saturday 30 August, families can enjoy the Enchanted Bishop Auckland Trail, a free activity that takes visitors around the town in search of enchanting brick-built characters.
Participants can solve clues along the way, with prizes up for grabs.
From 7 to 20 September, the council is funding Bishop Auckland’s WordFest, titled Turn the Page, hosted by Dispel Arts at the Artists Hub.
The festival will celebrate reading and writing through a programme of creative workshops, community events and showcases featuring local authors and illustrators.
On Saturday 26 September, the council will also host the annual Heritage Fair, which has become a highlight of Bishop Auckland’s cultural calendar.
The free event brings families, residents, and visitors together for a packed programme of talks, exhibitions and activities celebrating the town’s heritage.
This year the event will take place in the Artist Hub whilst the Northern Bygone Society will be showcasing classic and vintage cars in the
Market Place.
