Shildon Live celebrates its 10 year anniversary on Friday July 18 and Saturday July 19.

As part of the many exciting events taking place this year to celebrate 200 years since the start of the modern railway with the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, County Councillors in Shildon and Newton Aycliffe have joined forces with the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway to give primary school children a treat.

A brand-new album of songs of songs and poems to celebrate 200 years of passenger travel launches on 14 March 2025.

The S&DR200 festival will launch with All Change, a spectacular open-air event in Bishop Auckland, combining dazzling projections, drones and up to 100 live performers bringing history to life, on Saturday 29 March.

Shildon poet, David Coates has published his second collection of poetry, and the Shildon Town Crier has copies to purchase, as well as three copies to give away in our free to enter competition.

Local author, Tom Jacomb is set to see the second of his Ice Kids series of children’s fantasy books hit the shelves.

Northern Citrines Jazz Band, originally formed in Shildon and now practicing and based in Ferryhill, are hosting their annual carnival on Sunday 28 July in Hackworth Park.

Middridge fete and family fun day is on 7 July, starting at 1.30pm, with lots of stalls and free attractions for children.

The festival will include the Big and Little Brass Bashes that bring the party to outdoor spaces across the county including Spennymoor, Shildon, Newton Aycliffe and more.

Big Brass Bash, one of the region’s best-loved music events is once again going on the road when it makes its eagerly-awaited return next month, including a return Shildon’s Hackworth Park.
