Stage and Song panto sells out

Spennymoor Stage & Song performed Cinderella to sold out audiences this month.

Local amateur theatre group Spennymoor Stage & Song are celebrating the success of their annual pantomime which was staged at Spennymoor Town Hall earlier this month.

The group performed Cinderella with Stacey Thompson playing the leading role.

Jayne Etherington was the elegant Prince Charming, whilst David Galloway and Ian Patterson starred as the not so charming, but hilariously funny ugly sisters, Gertrude and Grizelda.

Rebekah Newman played Dandini, the aide to Prince Charming, whilst Rhys Bye and Sara Halliday appeared as the Broker’s Men comedy twosome of Bodget and Leggett.

Other cast members in supporting roles, included Ann-Marie Clayton as the Fairy Godmother, Dean Ranyard as Baron Hardup, Heather Whitfield as Baroness Rubella Hardup, and Dan Riches as the Lord Chamberlain.

All five shows were performed to full houses as tickets completely sold out in the run up to the opening night on 10
January.

Producer Liam Etherington, who also starred as the comedic character Buttons said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Cinderella proved to be such a hit with all performances a complete sell out.

“Thank you so much to everyone who bought a ticket and came along to support us.

“We absolutely love performing for the people of Spennymoor and we’ve had some really positive feedback from those who came to see the show.

“They really enjoyed the whole experience of a traditional pantomime with catchy music, dancing and lots of laughter.”

The group were also honoured to have the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) National President, Christine Hunter-Hughes and Spennymoor Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Geldard, amongst the Friday night audience.

Spennymoor Stage & Song have been in existence since 1912. First known as Spennymoor Amateur Operatic Society, they have been entertaining the local community ever since, whilst giving people young and old the opportunity to perform on stage.

Stage & Song’s next performance will be their production of the famous Broadway musical, Hello Dolly, with rehearsals now underway.

The production will be staged at Spennymoor Town Hall from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 April with evening performances beginning at 7pm and the Saturday matinee show starting at 2pm.

Tickets are available now here, or can be reserved by calling 07881 761416.
