Employees from Cummins Darlington have shown their support for the local community by volunteering their time at Spennymoor Boxing Academy as part of the company’s Every Employee Every Community programme, known as EEEC.
The initiative encourages Cummins employees to give back to the communities where they live and work, using company-supported volunteering time to assist projects and organisations that make a positive difference. Through EEEC, employees are able to contribute practical support, skills and time to local causes, helping strengthen links between the business and the wider community.
Spennymoor Boxing Academy, based at Spennymoor Leisure Centre, plays an important role in the town by providing opportunities for young people and adults to take part in structured boxing and fitness sessions. The academy has a strong history of community involvement and charitable support, with local fundraising efforts previously helping good causes across the region.
By sending employees to support the academy’s charity-focused activities, Cummins has helped bring additional hands, energy and encouragement to an organisation already making a difference locally. The partnership reflects the shared values of teamwork, discipline, inclusion and community spirit.
John McIvor, a Cummins employee and volunteer coach at Spennymoor Boxing Academy, said: “We are proud to support Spennymoor Boxing Academy and the valuable work it does for local people. EEEC gives employees the opportunity to step outside the workplace and make a meaningful contribution to the communities around us.”
Robert Ellis, who founded Spennymoor Boxing Academy more than 35 years ago and continues to serve as head coach, said: “Support like this makes a real difference to the club and the wider community. We have always tried to give local people a positive place to train, learn discipline and build confidence.”
The support forms part of Cummins’ wider commitment to community engagement, with the EEEC programme enabling employees to volunteer during working time and contribute to projects that improve lives, support local organisations and help build stronger communities.
For Spennymoor Boxing Academy, the involvement of local businesses and volunteers provides valuable backing for its continued efforts to support young people, promote positive activities and raise awareness for charitable causes.
