Give a child a present for Christmas – it may be the only one they get this year.
That is the message from staff at Shildon’s Children in Distress store, who are encouraging residents to take part in their Christmas Shoebox Appeal.
A spokesperson commented, “Fill a shoebox and put a smile on a child’s face. Many children in our orphanages have been abandoned by their parents, or their parents have died. This means they have no-one to buy them Christmas presents.
“Many are severely disabled or terminally ill, and knowing someone, somewhere wants to help means a great deal to them.
“Your gift of a shoebox wrapped in bright Christmas paper filled with toys, sweets, or things to keep them warm will help bring the true meaning of Christmas to these forgotten youngsters.”
Visit the shop in Church Street to pick up a leaflet and speak to Melanie or Margaret to find out more about how you can help. Alternatively, call 01388 773405.
The last day that gifts can be delivered to the Church Street shop is Saturday 15th November.
