In the first of a series of articles, 1st Ferryhill Scout Group would like to take the opportunity to tell you about the various sections that form the Scout Group at Ferryhill.
In the coming issues, we will introduce our Cubs and Scouts, but first, the spotlight is on our Beaver Scouts – often simply referred to as Beavers.
Trying new things and making new friends, joining Beavers is just the beginning of your big adventure.
Beavers is the perfect introduction to Scouting, and a great way for young people to start socialising and going out and doing new things.
Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday.
They can move to the next section, Cub Scouts, between eight and eight years six months.
Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beavers are our youngest members, and generally meet for about an hour per week.
They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Beaver Scout sleepover with their friends.
During their time in the Colony, Beavers will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips, days out, and on sleepovers.
Participation, rather than meeting set standards, is the key approach, and there are a range of badges and challenge awards that Beaver Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.
The aim of Beaver Scouts is to make sure that the youngsters have a good time whilst at Beavers, be it from doing artwork or playing sports.
By playing games, singing songs, and visiting places of interest, we think that Beavers is a fantastic way to make friends and have fun.
Going to Beavers is very different from going to school. Instead of learning from books, they will figure the world out by exploring, playing, and doing.
1st Ferryhill Beavers meet on Fridays from 6pm until 7.15pm during term time.
There are currently spaces available. There is no waiting list and the first month is free.
