Grading success for famous Spennymoor academy

A successful grading day.

Seven members from the North East’s only specially designed Kyokushin karate Academy took their club level gradings recently.

They were tested for two hours on knowledge, technique, stamina and ability.

From the adult’s class, Erin Kingston and Coswell Makonza both achieved their orange belts.

From the junior class, William Murfet and Eva Banhura both achieved blue belt status. Amelia Heslam and Jake Jackson were both promoted to orange belts and Oscar Elliot gained his white belt black stripe.

“Standards in our Academy are extremely high and we expect nothing but the best from our students as they work their way through our very strict and formal lifelong learning curriculum.”, commented instructor Lee Corner.

“Promotional gradings are not easy and can only be taken when our students are properly prepared, both mentally and physically. Moving through the ranks in Kyokushin karate is hard and it can only be achieved by people who are fully dedicated and who are prepared to work hard.

“The journey is more important than the destination and with the correct attitude and dedication a student will improve naturally.”

The next club level grading will take place in August 2026.
