Bishop Auckland Minis had a busy weekend of rugby with teams from Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 9s and Under 11s all in action at various tournaments across the region.
A new look Under 7s team had matches against Durham, Darlington Mowden Park and Houghton. They won two matches and drew one. Bishop played exceptionally well with great attacking play and defensive team work.
The Under 8s took part in a festival at Durham RUFC with Westoe, Durham and Darlington Mowden Park. In their first games of the season they won two and lost one. The team defended with determination and worked hard for each other.
The Under 9s travelled to Houghton for their first games of the season with two wins and a draw against Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland.
The new players gelled fantastically and the team carried on from where they finished last season.
All the boys put in some great tackles, closed down their opposite numbers quickly and were well organised in defence. Communication was excellent and some of the covering tackles in defence were awesome.
Player-of-the-Match was awarded to Jake Sharp for an excellent performance both in defence and attack over all three games.
The Under 11 squad kicked off their season at Hebburn in a festival against Westoe ‘A’ & ‘B’, Gateshead and Sunderland.
Despite being a couple of players down through injury they won three and lost one and played some very attractive attacking rugby, which drew compliments from the opposition coaches.
“They were aggressive and tenacious in defence and all of the boys should be proud of the effort they put into a good performance,” said their coach.
