Bishop Auckland Table Tennis club started their National League season last weekend and are sitting pretty at the top of the league table.
This year sees the club having two teams taking part in the Table Tennis England’s National Junior League.
The A team, hoping to go one better than last season’s 4th place, started out with an 8-1 win over the Bishop “B” team with Erin Harrison scoring a fine win over Carl Draper.
The B Team then took on Ormsby “C” with a 7-2 win, with Sam Hume picking up 3 wins and 2 for Erin and Matt Oldfield, with the A team picking a 6-3 win over Blitz A from Lincolnshire.
Rob Renton won all three of his singles, a double from Zak Hutchinson and a single from Tom Whittaker.
Last matches of the day saw the B team take on last year’s winners Northfield, falling to a 7-2 loss with Joe Hume scoring two fine wins over much higher ranked players.
The A team finished with a 9-0 whitewash over Ormsbey “B” with Zak, Carl and Rob all winning maximums to finish the day top of the table.
