By 10am the queue was snaking down the drive of the church as people jostled to get into Saint John’s biggest Christmas Fayre in years.
Opened by Shildon and County Councillor Trish Pemberton, children were soon rushing pell mell to see Santa. Around 160 children chatted to Santa about their hopes and dreams for the coming Christmas whilst around 500 adults milled around the stalls.
One Shildon resident commented, “This is amazing, I’ve never seen so many Christmassy stalls with such great gift ideas.”
Revd. David thanked everyone for coming and said, “This fayre is not just about St. John’s but about our community being a community.
“With £2,445 raised towards a disabled lift, £290 for Shildon Alive! and £100 for street children, the fayre was a real record breaker, well done Shildon!”
