Spennymoor Walking Football Club founder Brian Shippen surprised members of the Spennymoor Town FC Supporters Club at their recent AGM by presenting them with a framed shirt featuring the Supporters Club logo.

These shirts will be proudly worn by the Walking Football Team during their upcoming campaign.

The framed shirt was given in recognition of the generous funding provided by the Supporters Club over the past two seasons.

Founded in 2021, Spennymoor Walking Football Club offers both recreational sessions and competitive teams for over 50s and over 60s in league competitions.

Friendly sessions take place on Tuesdays from 10am to 11am and Thursdays from 2pm to 3pm at Spennymoor Leisure Centre, as well as on Saturdays from 10am to 11am at Coxhoe Leisure Centre.

The club warmly welcomes prospective new members who are looking to stay physically active as they age.

The physical, mental and social benefits of walking football are well documented, making it a highly recommended activity for maintaining health and wellbeing.

Upon learning about the significant running costs involved – such as pitch hire, equipment and referee fees – the Supporters Club was eager to offer their support to help sustain the clubโ€™s activities.

Over the last two seasons they have pledged ยฃ900 in funding.

Supporters Club Secretary Gary Campbell emphasised the strong and positive relationship they have with Brian, as well as with many of the Walking Football players and volunteers.

They often join them in various activities or for a pre-match drink on Saturdays, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. Gary expressed confidence that this mutually beneficial connection will continue to thrive well into the future, strengthening club spirit and engagement.
