Trinity Church in Edward Street, Spennymoor has been successfully running a community shop, wardrobe and cafe for the last nine months, reports Project Coordinator Jeanette Logan.
PlacetoBe is open each Thursday from 3 – 5.30pm and currently has over 200 members benefiting from reduced price food, fresh vegetables, toiletries and other essentials.
The cafe serves homemade snacks and delicious cakes.
Preloved clothing, including school uniforms is available to any member who joins up for ยฃ1 per month.
PlacetoBe is developing a reputation for its great prices but also the warm welcome and community vibe.
Recently there has been free cookery classes and childrenโs activities.
We are now signed up as a community wellbeing hub, with themed days and support delivered during the Thursday sessions.
There is a wellbeing walk every Wednesday leaving at 10 – 11am, with a coffee and catch up afterwards.
All of these activities would not be possible without the professional, kind, consistent support given by our wonderful volunteers who do everything from stocking the shelves, cleaning the shop, serving on the till and cooking in the cafe.
There is a role for everyone and training, induction and ongoing support is available.
We recently held a summer picnic in Jubilee Park to recognise and celebrate these wonderful people.
A certificate and badge were given to show appreciation.
If you would like to join our fun team please pop in any Thursday from 9am – 5.30pm or call 07845 081906.
Everyone is welcome to become a member of our community shop.
