Members from the Chikara Dojo in Spennymoor took part in their annual summer camp recently.
The camp has been very well attended since it began in 2004 and brings people from all walks of life together for a weekend of training and outdoor activities.
What is unique about the event is that most of the training takes place outdoors in various different locations. As well as time spent at the Dojo, this year’s participants trained and camped in Tudhoe Village, where they had a BBQ and camp fire, complete with toasted marsh mallows. Outdoor training took place at Low Force and there was waterfall training at Gibson’s Cave in Middleton Teesdale.
A grading also took place at the camp where 3 members of the club moved up ranks. Jake Cudworth achieved his orange belt, Konrad Dlugosz achieved his blue belt black stripe and after showing tremendous effort, Michelle Corner passed her national grading to black belt.
“This was our 22nd annual training camp and it went fantastically well. I am always pleased when we meet at events like this as it gives people the opportunity to train and socialise together”, commented club instructor Lee Corner.
Several families train together at the Chikara Dojo as it is a great opportunity for parents to bond with their kids, whilst keeping fit and learning a potentially lifesaving martial art. If you would like to get fitter, learn self – defence and if you would like to spend some quality bonding time with your kids in a disciplined, well – structured environment then the Chikara Dojo is for you. If you want to escape your kids it is for you also.
