Town Council launches annual Youth Awards

Bishop Auckland Town Council has officially launched its 2026 Youth Awards, inviting the community to recognise exceptional young people who make a positive difference in the town.

Nominations are now open and can be submitted by parents, guardians, teachers, youth leaders, coaches, peers, and others who wish to highlight the achievements of a young person. Nominees must be between 8 and 18 years old at the time of nomination.

Nominations can be submitted online by scanning the QR code featured on promotional materials, which directs users to the application page. The deadline for submissions is 20 April.

Winners will be invited to a Red-Carpet Awards Evening on 20 June 2026 at Bishop Auckland Town Hall. The event will be hosted by Channy Thompson, a North East singer known for supporting major artists including Olly Murs and Jess Glynne.

The Town Council has also opened opportunities for local businesses to sponsor one of the 12 award categories.

Each sponsoring business will receive two tickets to the awards evening and will have the honour of presenting the award for their chosen category.

Businesses seeking further details can contact Bishop Auckland Town Council directly or visit the Council’s website.

Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Sam Zair said: “Our young people inspire us everyday with their talent, kindness, and determination.

“These awards are our chance to recognise their achievements and show them just how valued they are within our community.
‘I encourage everyone to take a moment to nominate a young person who deserves to be celebrated.”

Claire, a parent of a previous Youth Award winner added: “Winning a Youth Award gave Jack such a boost in confidence.

“It showed them that their hard work and kindness hadn’t gone unnoticed. The evening itself was magical, and it’s something our family will never forget.

“I’d encourage any parent, teacher or friend to nominate a young person who deserves this recognition.”

For more information or to submit a nomination, residents are encouraged to scan the QR code above, also available on posters, flyers, and social media.
