Chilton is gearing up for its biggest community celebration of the year at the annual Chilton Show on Sunday, 30 August.
Taking place at the Miners’ Welfare Recreation Ground (Charlie Wayman Field) from 12noon until 4pm, the event promises a packed afternoon of entertainment, and admission is completely free for everyone.
Kicking off the festivities at mid-day is local celebrity entertainer and community champion, Brenda Collins, followed by headliners, the ever popular local four-piece band, Mamma Said, ready to get the crowd moving with iconic pop, soul, and R&B anthems.
Once again, the showfield will be buzzing with activity all afternoon.
Visitors can marvel at a majestic aerial falconry display, watch precision-controlled model aircraft sweep through the sky, and enjoy a high-kicking demonstration from local Taekwondo martial art group.
Families will find plenty of attractions to keep children entertained, including traditional show rides, big inflatable assault course and bouncy castle, bronco bull and a series of fun track-side children’s races.
Animal lovers are also encouraged to bring along their four-legged friends, with the popular companion dog show making a welcome return.
Attendees can also get up close with a variety of fascinating exotic animals.
At the heart of the Chilton Show are the traditional exhibition classes, celebrating the very best of local skill and creativity.
The horticulture benches will display prize-winning blooms and giant vegetables, while the craft section will showcase impressive handmade artwork, baking, and woodwork.
Budding local photographers have an extra incentive to enter this year.
The photography competition will be officially judged by the editorial team at the Ferryhill & Chilton Chapter.
In addition to the certificates and prize money up for grabs, the overall winning image will claim the ultimate local bragging rights by being featured as the newspaper’s Photograph of the Week.
Around the arena area, the field will host a wide array of trade stalls, charity booths, and games.
Visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to refreshments, with a diverse line-up of local food vendors serving up hot meals, sweet treats, snacks, and cold drinks throughout the day.
Everyone is invited to head down to Charlie Wayman Field on 30 August to support local creators, catch up with neighbours, and enjoy a fantastic free day out.
