After a match of controversy, Chilton’s only bowls team has reached the Coronation Cup Final in the Cleveland & Teesside Bowling League beating Elm Tree (Stockton) 36-33, reports Scott Morland.
The game started bang on time despite early arrival of the opposition players inspecting, taking photos and ringing people to see what the rules are of playing on our current bowls surface.
Little respect was shown by the opposition for the hard work that goes into refurbishing an old bowling green and the fact that the sunshine had scorched it in the previous week.
This got the Chilton Team fired up for an enormous win and our first ever cup final to be played in September at Thornaby against Jack Hatfield Bowls Club of Middlesbrough.
Our rink consisting of Terry Dougherty, David Bell, Carmel Guy and Sue Waller battled through a fraught game leading most of the way but eventually winning comfortably.
Our other rink of Michael Wigham, Bill Morland, Phil Pearce and Scott Morland pulled back a large deficit to only lose by four in what for long periods looked like a lost cause.
This made the aggregate score very tight giving our winning rink the chance to finish in style with some great bowls.
