Registered carers and their families are being invited to enjoy a free medieval-themed day out in Bishop Auckland as part of National Carers Week 2026.
The Auckland Project and Hearth have partnered with Durham County Carers Support to host ‘Mini Medieval Mayhem’ on Saturday 13 June from 10.30am to 4pm.
Created especially for registered carers, the event will offer families the chance to relax, spend quality time together and enjoy a range of hands-on medieval-themed activities at their own pace in a supportive environment.
Activities throughout the day will include creative crafts, interactive experiences, lively medieval music from The Ran Tanners, a special bird of prey display from Walworth Birds of Prey. Visitors are also welcome to bring picnics (no alcohol is permitted).
National Carers Week, running from 8–14 June, celebrates the millions of unpaid carers across the UK and highlights the importance of building carer-friendly communities.

Jenni Wood, CEO of Durham County Carers Support, said: “We are so excited to be working with The Auckland Project and Hearth this Carers Week to jointly deliver such an exciting carer and family-friendly event.
“Carers Week 2026 is all about building carer-friendly communities and working in partnership is exactly what it’s all about. Together we can raise awareness of the impact of caring and how important it is to identify and support carers.
“For many families we support, having a day out is a rare occurrence but incredibly important for their health and wellbeing. We are grateful to everyone involved for making this possible.”
Developed in partnership with The Auckland Project and supported by SHED, Hearth is The Auckland Project’s Community Programme designed to encourage families, young people and individuals to engage in cultural and creative activities.
Ali Hone, Head of Public Programming at The Auckland Project, said: “Hearth is all about creating opportunities for families to come together through creativity, culture and shared experiences, so we’re delighted to be part of this special event for carers and their loved ones.
“We know carers give so much of themselves every day, often with little time to relax and reconnect as a family. Mini Medieval Mayhem is designed to offer a welcoming, fun and inclusive space where families can try new activities and simply enjoy spending time with one another.”
Tickets must be booked in advance and are available for registered carers through Durham County Carers Support. Each household may book up to six tickets, with at least one attendee required to present a valid Carer Friendly Card on entry.
