Saint George, Patron Saint of England, was celebrated in style on Sunday morning at St John’s Church.
A number of representatives from the All Saints Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, paraded into church presenting their flags at the beginning of the service and joining in with enthusiasm.
St George, who, legend tells us, fought dragons, is also patron saint of the scouting movement and those present were exhorted to follow George’s example in combatting evil.
Revd. David, in welcoming the Scouts, commented how the Christian roots of the organisation are worked out in the lives of its members today as they practise compassion, show forgiveness, and discover the joys of creation in the many outdoor activities they do.
After the St John’s service, the pack headed north to Consett to join other packs from across the region as they celebrated together.
