Schools across the UK are being invited to take part in Great Big Green Week 2026, the UK’s only mass moment for climate and nature, with free resource packs now available to download for both primary and secondary settings.
Great Big Green Week takes place from 6 to 14 June 2026 and brings together communities, schools, faith groups, businesses and local organisations across the UK to take visible, practical action for climate and nature. This year’s theme is Together for Good, and organisers expect two million people to take part.
The free school packs, available at greatbiggreenweek.com/schools, include curriculum-linked activities, lesson ideas and guidance on how schools can register their events. They have been designed to make participation as straightforward as possible, whether a school is planning a single assembly or a full week of activities.
During Great Big Green Week itself, two free live lessons will give pupils the chance to connect with the wider world.
On Tuesday 9 June, Steve Backshall will present a free live nature lesson for primary schools in partnership with WWF.
On Thursday 11 June, The Climate Coalition and Save the Children will co-host a free live international classroom lesson connecting pupils in the UK with a school in Malawi. Pupils will hear directly from children in Malawi about what it is like to live with the effects of climate change.
Mary Corfield, Great Big Green Week said “Schools are at the heart of Great Big Green Week, and every year they never fail to inspire us. There is something truly special about seeing young people come together for good, whether that is through a classroom activity, a school assembly or a live lesson connecting them with children on the other side of the world.
“Great Big Green Week gives schools a brilliant opportunity to bring climate and nature to life in a way that feels hopeful, meaningful and genuinely exciting for pupils of all ages. And because it is part of a national moment, every school that takes part is joining thousands of communities, families and organisations across the UK who all care deeply about the same things.
“We would love every school in the country to be part of it this June. Getting involved is easier than you might think, and the impact on young people can be lasting. Download your free pack, sign up for a live lesson and come and be part of something wonderful.”
Shruti Agarwal, Senior Climate Adviser added
“Children’s voices are vital in the fight against the climate crisis.
“Save the Children welcomes the opportunity for schoolchildren in the UK to speak with and learn from the experiences of children living on the frontlines of the climate crisis in low-income countries.
“This initiative aims to create space for shared understanding, reflection, and age-appropriate action on an issue that is already affecting children’s lives around the world.”
