Premier League referee to visit

Premier League referee, Lee Mason will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Bishop Auckland Referees’ Association next month. Bolton-based Lee will speak to members about his refereeing career on Thursday 16th October. The meeting will take place at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club and commence at 7.30pm. All are welcome and admission is free.

Lee began his refereeing career in 1988, officiating in the Bolton Boys’ Federation League. He progressed via the North West Counties League and in 1998 was promoted to the Football League’s National List of Assistant Referees. He was promoted to the Referees’ List of the Football League in 2002, progressing to referee in the Premier League in 2006. Later that year, Lee refereed the League One Play-Off Final between Barnsley and Swansea City at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Terry Farley, Secretary of Bishop Auckland Referees’ Association said, “We are delighted that Lee has agreed to join us in Bishop Auckland on 16th October.

“We are very much looking forward to greeting him at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club and listening to his experiences of refereeing in the Premier League and how he progressed through the non-league system.

“All are welcome to join on us on the night, whether you are an active referee, a retired referee or simply someone who loves football and is interested to find out more about the role of the referee in the modern game.”
