Parkinson’s UK’s Spennymoor support group is appealing for anyone affected by Parkinson’s in the area to become a member.
The group arranges a monthly meeting that offers information, support and friendship for people living with Parkinson’s and their friends, family and carers.
The group comes together from 1.30pm to 3pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month and many local people with Parkinson’s regularly attend and enjoy sharing information and experiences over a cup of tea.
They meet at St Paul’s Community Centre, DL16 7LS.
Cara Connolly, Area Development Manager at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s can be a shock and adapting to life with the condition can be hard for the person involved and their loved ones too.
“But we know that getting the right information and support at the right time can make all the difference.
“That’s why our local groups and networks have an important part to play for people in the region.
“It is vital that we can support everyone affected by Parkinson’s, so that together, we can move towards everyone with the condition feeling empowered to take back control of their life with Parkinson’s.”
Around 153,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s, including around 1,200 in County Durham.
Parkinson’s UK is the UK’s leading charity supporting those with the condition.
