Candy canes, a lantern parade, icy stilt walkers, festive music, snowflakes and the Grinch, kicked-off Chilton’s Countdown to Christmas, writes Cllr Sue Reece.
The Chilton Academy lantern parade led residents and visitors along Durham Road to enjoy Santa’s grotto and a “Wonderland” of rides, festive food, Christmas stalls, raffles and tombola stands, accompanied by the voices and music of the Academy Choir and Ferryhill Town Band.
At 7pm, Town Mayor, Cllr Stuart Sutherland, assisted by the Junior and Deputy Mayors, and surrounded by hundreds of residents, pushed the big red button.
The Christmas tree illumined to cheers and applause as a flurry of snowflakes filled the air and children, young and old, danced in the town square.
Chilton Town Council would like to thank Chilton Academy, Ferryhill Town Band, Hot Stuff Catering, The Wheatsheaf, Coffee Den, Neil’s Sweets, Legacy Entertainment and Richardson’s Entertainment for continuing to support our events.
Thanks also to Scott and Wayne on lights and PA system, the fantastic volunteers who helped with Santa’s Grotto, gift donations and stalls in Hutton House, and most importantly, the residents who came and shared their Christmas spirit and made the Grinch smile…not an easy thing to do!
