New minister for Spennymoor and Whitworth

Spennymoor and Whitworth parishes have a new curate after Rev’d Lee Trevorrow-Earl, who was ordained as a deacon in June, started his ministry.

Lee joins the parishes after two years of study at Cranmer Hall theological college in Durham City, and was ordained with seven other candidates by the Bishop of Jarrow during a special service at Durham Cathedral.

As a deacon, Lee will work alongside the Rev’d Canon Matt Tarling, vicar of St Paul’s and Whitworth churches, serving the local community, sharing in the pastoral ministry of the church, leading worship and preaching the word of God, ahead of being ordained as a priest in summer 2025.

Lee’s journey towards ordination has been varied and extensive, having grown up in a non-Anglican charismatic church home, but throughout his late teens and early adulthood developed an affinity for more traditional and contemplative forms of Christian worship.

Following being confirmed into the Church of England, Lee continued to experience a possible sense of calling to ordained ministry and, after a discernment process, was recommended for ordination training, which began in September 2022.

Reflecting on his ordination, Lee said: “It was easily one of the most precious and memorable days of my life. Despite some initial nerves, throughout the service and the rest of the day, I felt God’s presence with me in a profound way.

“I was also blown away by the warm welcome, kindness and hospitality I received from St Paul’s and Whitworth churches and it’s clear God is doing something wonderful in these communities and I count myself extremely blessed to be a part of that.”
