A wet start to the week saw me back in the gym on the static bike, writes Lee Williams in the latest update to his August Cycle the Month fundraising challenge in which he hopes to cover 500km by the end of August, but the weather improved and I managed to cover some good distances.
I have found myself increasingly looking around for cycle ways when driving then checking maps to see where they go and how I can work them into my routes. My two favourites at the moment are in Bishop Auckland. The first runs from Kynren and follows the old railway through Willington and up to Durham and beyond. The second runs from Auckland Park and runs up to Binchester Blocks and on up to Spennymoor. But, it is difficult to beat a ride on the quiet country back roads, early on Sunday morning while most people are still in their beds.
At the end of week three (20th August) I have completed 370km or 230 miles and it should be downhill from here, figuratively speaking. To put that distance into perspective if I had just ridden south I would have reached London by now, and if I had headed north I would be in Inverness.
As my challenge nears its goal, I have raised just under £750 for my charities. Every penny counts for these charities, so please dig deep and donate what you can on my fundraising page.
