Leek show season continues

leek-showShildon’s Brian Richardson won the Leek show down at the Sportsfield at the weekend, showing 186 cubic inches.

Bobby Appleby came in second showing 219, but was put back for poor quality. Tommy Gray was third with 150.

Brian Walton won the bulk of the stands, winning the long leek with 146, the long and stump carrots, cauliflower, fresh pulled onions, flat bottomed onions, small decs and small cacti.

Bob Vasey won the intermediate leek with 100 cubic inches, while Dave Snowball won the celery, shallots, and the buttonhole carnations and Joe Peers won the buttonhole rose.

Ian Kitching’s spray chrysanthemums and the vase of blooms were judged to be the best, while Bobby Appleby won the parsnips and Tim Burrell’s tray if 3 veg came in first.

At the Three Tuns, Barry Woodward won the show with 234 cubic inches. Brian Richardson was second with 205 and Rance Richardson was third.

Billy Drennan in fourth place won Best Leek in Show.

Dave Snowball came out on top in the intermediate leek with 149 and the long leeks with 186. Dave also won the stump carrots, celery, shallots, potatoes, and buttonhole carnation. Barry Woodward won the parsnips and dressed onion and Joss Aldworth won the long carrots. Gary Richardson’s beetroot and flat bottomed onions were judged the best, while Brian Richardson cleaned up in the flower section winning the poms, the decs, cacti, and vase of blooms.
