Residents living on Hilsdon Drive were left baffled after discovering trees on their street had been sawn down for no apparent reason.
The act of mindless vandalism occurred between the evening of Saturday 6th September and the morning of Sunday 7th September, when three trees just below the bus stop were chopped in half.
The trees were around 20ft high and surrounded by a 6ft high wire cage, and it was above this cage that the trees were sawn.
Two males in their early 20s were seen in the vicinity on Saturday evening at around 9.30pm.
A local resident commented, “Why anyone would do this is beyond comprehension. Who in their right mind would take a saw and cut down growing young trees planted to enhance the area? This is blatant vandalism.”
If anyone has any information as to who may be responsible, call Shildon NPT on 101.
