Ferryhill Athletic got their Wearside League Division 1 campaign off to a flying start with an 8-1 home victory over Sunderland RCA Reserves on Saturday.
Jay Roddam fired home on 20 minutes from just inside the box with Adam Morland adding another shortly after. The visitors pulled one back with their first attack of the game before Morland got his second to make it 3-1 at half-time.
With Tom Olley controlling the midfield in the second period, Morland went on to complete a well taken hat-trick. Alex Quinn moved into the middle from the wing and scored two great goals. Joel Bennett got his name on the score sheet as he outpaced the Sunderland defence and Ķieron Richardson crowned his Man of the Match award with a great header to make the final score 8-1.
Next up for the Latics is an away match against Durham City which is a clash between two former Northern League giants and an entertaining encounter is expected.
