Calling all green fingered gardeners, clever crafters, flourishing florists, and proud pooch owners – it’s time to fill in your entry for the Chilton Show, writes Sue Reece.
Building on the long tradition of hosting summer gala days, horticultural shows and floristry displays, this year’s event on the 30th August at the Miners Welfare Recreation Ground, promises to be even bigger and better than last year.
The show is a fantastic opportunity for our talented residents of all ages to showcase their skills and creativity, as well as have some fun.
The show will feature a wide range of classes including:
Vegetables: beetroot, tray of four veg, leeks, onions, cabbages and not forgetting the best giant vegetable;
Garden Fruit: 4 apples, 4 plums and best selection of summer fruits;
Flowers: foliage, buttonholes and an arrangement without foam;
Photography: local scene, four seasons of Chilton, wildlife, sunrise or sunset.
In addition, there will be art, handicrafts, home baking, a children’s section and everyone’s favourite, the Dog Show.

Of course, the show is bigger than just the competitions; it an opportunity to find out about our heritage and history, the origins of the Recreation Grounds and the Chilton Banner.
There will live entertainment from our very own Brenda Collins, bike ride, displays, falconry, exotics, inflatables, fancy dress, stalls, vendors and much more.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Bishop FM will be broadcasting live from the event, and their very own John Oley will be compering the show, so make sure you save the date.
