Shildon Alive are offering families a helping hand this summer as the long six weeks holiday commences.
Talking to the Crier they explained: “We recognise the hardship that impacts our families when children can’t access their free school meals.
“Our kitchen here aims to fill that gap and provide Shildon’s young people with a healthy lunch, free of charge.”
The initiative will run throughout the full holiday on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and families are encouraged to come into the shop to pick up their young people’s lunch.
They can also check out the groceries available for a donation or a very cheap price, to stretch their food budgets even more.
