A Bishop Auckland school is set to benefit from a fundraising day, which will take place at Chilton WMC at 10.30am on Saturday, May 30th.
Chilton resident, Darren Williams, is organising the event and is hoping to attract people from surrounding towns and villages.
Evergreen Primary School, which is a purpose-built special school, is situated in Warwick Road, Bishop Auckland, and opened in September 2005 following the closure of four special schools in south-west Durham.
The school is a mixed day school, catering for up to 124 pupils aged between 2 and 11 years-old that have either moderate, severe, profound or multiple learning difficulties. Some of the children have autistic spectrum disorders and some have additional physical, sensory, linguistic or emotional and behavioural difficulties which require specialist equipment. This means that the school requires additional funding, which the county council often struggles to find.
Currently, the school is desperately trying to raise funds for a mini-bus, which needs special adjustments made for the pupils in wheelchairs.
The organisers of the event have said that they want to raise funds so that they could help the school ensure that all pupils would receive the best learning and development experience possible.
Darren said, “We are appealing to local businesses for prizes for fundraising raffles.”
Last year a charity football game was held on Saturday, May 17th, at West Chilton Playing Fields. The event raised funds for a local younster to continue her development at the world famous research Peto Institute in Hungary. Darren added that the match, “raised a fantastic £2,274, this also generated fabulous publicity for those companies who got involved.”
Due to its success, the ‘fun day’ will be repeated this year with a similar charity football match and day of entertainment at Chilton WMC.
After the match, the ‘fun day’ will continue in Chilton WMC Lounge, where there will be entertainment. Admission to the game is £1.00 and tickets to the WMC Event are £3.00, and are available from Chilton WMC.
