Chilton Town Council and the Junior Town Council teamed up with fellow pupils from Chilton Academy to tackle the issue of dog fouling across the town. The initiative challenged local pupils to design an eye-catching poster to encourage residents to pick up after their pets.
The competition drew a fantastic response, with 30 pupils submitting entries.
Mayor Cllr Sue Reece said, “The standard of entries was so high that myself, Louise Inwood (Durham County Council Neighbourhood Warden for Chilton) and Cllr Elizabeth Bruce could not pick just one winner, so we awarded a joint first prize to two standout designs: Isobel won for her incredibly eye-catching artistic design and Jack for his clever and memorable slogan”.
Every single one of the 30 entrants was rewarded for their hard work with a dog key ring. The winners and runners-up also took home adorable cuddly toy dogs as special prizes.
This project is part of the Town Council’s ongoing commitment to keeping Chilton clean.
The two winning designs have now been combined into one final poster, and members of the Junior Town Council have already identified the town’s main dog-walking hotspots. Residents will soon see these posters displayed at these key locations to remind everyone to do their part and be part of “the clean-up crew”.
