Annual Fire Engine Rally at Locomotion

fire-engine-1Locomotion is hosting its annual Fire Engine Rally on Sunday 31st August.

The popular event will feature a range of classic and vintage fire engines, including a 1978 Land Rover Series 3 Fire Appliance owned by Malcolm Paul from Chester-le-Street. The vehicle was delivered new to British Steel’s Barrow Works, and then sold in 1983 to Bowater Tissues, also at Barrow. Mr Paul purchased the vehicle in 2001 and has lovingly cared for it ever since.

Mr Paul said, “I have a life-long interest in heritage vehicles of all descriptions. As well as owning a vintage fire engine, I’m an active member of several local railway groups. So I’m delighted to be able to combine my interests by bringing my fire appliance to the fire engine rally at Locomotion”.

Other vehicles expected to attend the event include a 1990, ex-Durham County Fire Brigade Dennis DS153 Fire Appliance, and an AEC Merryweather Fire Appliance with a 100ft turntable ladder.

Younger visitors will also have the chance to win prizes in the free-to-enter fire engine themed colouring competition.

Admission and parking for the event are both free of charge.
