In front of a disappointing crowd, Shildon AFC progressed to the 3rd Round of the F.A. vase with a comfortable 2 – 0 home win against Runcorn Town on Saturday 22nd November.
From the kick-off Shildon were in control with Paul Connor creating three early chances, and Ben Wood firing wide. Lee Scroggins then shot across the face of the goal before Daniel Moore’s shot was saved by keeper Stuart Plant with his feet. It was all Shildon, with Runcorn defending in numbers and very rarely getting out of their own half. Despite all their possession the Railwaymen failed to hit the back of the net before the interval.
In the first minute of the second half a Chris Emms shot was tipped over by keeper Plant. On 74 minutes, with probably their only chance of the half, Runcorn’s No 5 hit the bar. Shortly afterwards Shildon finally broke the deadlock when a Mark Doninger free kick was headed into the bottom corner by Jamie Harwood.
With 6 minutes remaining, a cross from Micky Rae was headed in from close range by Daniel Moore for 2 – 0.
Final Score: Shildon AFC 2 Runcorn Town 0.
