Injuries lead to defeat for Under 14s

Shildon AFC Junior’s Under 14s’ recent clash with Cargo Fleet ended in a 0-3 defeat.

Shildon started the game brightly and carved open a couple of opportunities that on another day would have gone in.

Cargo played themselves back into the match and snatched a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes with their first attack of note.

The game was evenly balanced until disaster struck for Shildon when Captain Cain Smith went down under a very heavy challenge. Cain showed incredible bravery attempting to carry on in the match when he didn’t realise how badly injured he was. He was substituted within a minute and was rushed off to hospital. He will be out of the game for a period of time.

Ten minutes later and more crushing news for Shildon – top scorer Noah McCourt also succumbed to injury and had to leave the match early. Half Time 0-1.

Shildon battled on bravely against a team that had now got on top, with two of Shildon’s top boys off the pitch.

Two further goals were scored by Fleet in the second half and two further injuries to Steven Dawson and Dylan Rutherford compounded Shildon’s misery.

Man-of-the-match went to Alex Lamb.

A spokesperson for the team commented, “Best wishes from everyone to Cain for a quick and full recovery, and hopefully with a weekend off the other injured players will be fit to kick start the season once more.”
