The Colleagues of St Helens Care Home in Bishop Auckland donned their hiking boots and waterproofs to raise funds for the residents recently.
Care Assistants, Alicia Tyers and Sarah Kirkbride, along with Tamsyn Henderson and Andrea Dixon from the Activities Team, climbed Roseberry Topping, a hill incorporating a distinctive half cone shaped peak with a jagged cliff.
Reaching over 1,000 feet (320m) and a round trip of two miles, the St Helens ladies made the climb in appalling conditions. The weather was so bad the peak was clouded in fog meaning they couldn’t even enjoy the views.
The intrepid team raised £1,145 for the residents’ fund, which was established to ensure no resident is left out of a special occasion such as outings, activities, gifts and specialist equipment.
Home Manager Suzanne, Admin Dawn and residents Nicholas and Russel met the group on their return, greeting them with bubbles and flowers. Suzanne said: “I am super proud of the girls. To give up their own time to complete this massive accomplishment.”
