Mayor at home raises charity funds

Mayor Sam Zair with Consort Cllr Lesley Zair and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dr Bob McManners and guests.

Councillor Sam Zair held his first official event as Mayor of Bishop Auckland at the Town Hall, with the Mayoral at Home event on Monday 10th July.

Cllr Zair was joined by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Dr Robert McManners, along with mayors and colleagues from across the region, their families, friends, and members of the public. After a tour of the Shattered exhibition by artist Stuart Langley in the gallery, everyone enjoyed a delightful and delicious afternoon tea. Cllr Zair, who is passionate about the people and businesses of Bishop Auckland, invited a range of independent businesses including The House of Smudge and Pineapple Gallery to come along to showcase their wares at the event.

Cllr Zair said: “I was amazed at the number of people who attended from across the region. This was a perfect opportunity to show what Bishop Auckland has to offer. I was thrilled that the event raised £363 for my chosen charities which are Alzheimer’s UK and The Angel Trust, as this is a great start to my fundraising activities. I would also like to thank the Town Council staff, Angel Trust volunteers and the team at the Town Hall for their hard work to make the event such a success.”

This was the first fundraising event that the Mayor is planning, with a quiz night, cheese and wine event and a ball all being planned. Details will be available here once event details are confirmed.
