On Sunday afternoon, Ferryhill Town Youth U16’s made it eight wins from nine games when they travelled to Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick FC (TIBS) looking to stretch their unbeaten run and follow up from last weeks impressive cup win.
The pitch wasn’t great but both sides adapted well although it was Ferryhill that stormed into a 2-0 lead through McKenzie in the 15th and Marc in the 18th minutes.
Some superb speed in attack and accurate finishing was the difference between the sides.
As the half wore on TIBS pushed Ferryhill back and some good skill allowed them to pull one back.
The two-goal lead was soon restored, however, as another great finish from Aidan made it 1-3 in the 26th minute.
Aidan made a couple of great saves in the half as he continues to fill in between the posts, ensuring the visitors maintained their two-goal advantage into the break.
The second half was a battle as the pitch conditions and weather affected the football being played.
The wind got up and the ball was swirling around in the gusts but it was Ferryhill who scored again through Aaron, notching his second of the game.
A stroke of fortune saw TIBS again reduce the deficit the wind got hold of a long range shot that sailed over Aidan’s head into the top corner to boost the home team’s confidence.
However, Ferryhill dug deep and used all 14 players to battle hard and, on the counter attack late in the game, McKenzie burst clear and coolly slotted home to make complete a 2-5 win.
MotM was Aidan as he confidently dealt with what TIBS had to offer and gave confidence to the Ferryhill back line.
