Shildon stretched their unbeaten record in all competitions to thirteen games on Saturday after a hard-fought win against ten-man Whickham.
The home side were reduced to ten within half an hour when Jordan Lavery received his second yellow with the match still goalless, but it was the hosts who would take the lead just six minutes before the break through Robbie Little.
Moments before the interval, however, Billy Greulich-Smith pounced to bring the visitors level.
A Nathan Greenwood double in 50 and 58 minutes looked to have sealed the points, but Whickham responded instantly through Finlay Neary’s wickedly deflected effort to reduce the deficit to one goal.
However, Adam Lennox made sure there would be no comeback, slotting home after a goalkeeping error gifted Shildon the ball 20 yards from goal.
With Shildon’s midweek rearranged game against West Allotment Celtic postponed again, this time due to a waterlogged pitch, Blyth Town took the opportunity to move ahead of the Railwaymen on goal difference.
This weekend, Shildon travel to Whitley Bay before visiting West Auckland on Tuesday evening.
