Pupils at Timothy Hackworth Primary School have raised over £600 to help a critically ill local boy take a dream trip to Disneyland.
Mason Campion, of Hunwick, has an aggressive form of cancer which was found in his brain and has now spread to his spine.
The school decided to help the youngster and his family after burglars stole a charity box holding around £200 from Crumbs Snack Bar in Evenwood; money that had been collected for the Disneyland trip.
The school held a non-uniform day which raised £500, and some of the children had previously raised £100 from an enterprise project by selling handmade cards. When they heard what had happened to Mason, they decided to add their £100 enterprise profit as well.
A spokesperson for the school said, “The £600 has been sent to Mason’s family; we are very proud of the children.”
