Bookworms showed their love for their local library on Saturday 8th February; National Library Day.
MP for Bishop Auckland, Helen Goodman, marked the event by visiting Shildon’s Sid Chaplin Library. She said, “This was a really useful visit because I realised what a wide spectrum of people use the library, from young readers to older people, a local reading group as well as providing free activities for the local children during school holidays.
“The ICT provision is invaluable for local families without computers or internet access at home.
“A town the size of Shildon is a better place for having this vital resource along with the support readily provided by the staff.
“The Libraries Campaign estimates that over 600 libraries will have been closed or turned into volunteer-run libraries since David Cameron has been Prime Minister.
“Labour believes that every local library service must be supported by a backbone of professional librarians.”
