Oh! What a night at Chilton club

Comedian, Brenda Collins with her surprise troupe of dancers: Brenda Johnson, Treasurer at St Andrew’s Church Chilton; Irene Foster, dinner lady; Susan Maughan, Post Mistress at Chilton Post office, Brenda Collins and Stuart Sutherland, Deputy Mayor of Chilton Town Council.

Oh! What a night Friday 22nd September at Chilton Community Sports & Social Club proved to be, writes club secretary, Carolyn Jones. People came from far and wide to support the charity show for three cancers – Breast, Prostrate and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The artists who gave their performances for free were fantastic and very professional, the crowd loved them. One of the acts, our very own Brenda Collins, included her dancers, who performed Swan Lake.

“My dancers are all local survivors of breast cancer,” said Brenda, “apart from the Deputy Mayor, Stuart Sutherland, of course. The dancers had to keep their act a closely-guarded secret as their performance was a surprise to the local audience. Many of them had to pretend to partners that they were working late in order to justify sneaking off to practice.”

We played bingo and even those who won donated some of their winnings back – lovely people! Over 200 tombola prizes were received, 35 raffle prizes donated from local people, including the Half Moon, local post office also NERAMS donated £200 which was gratefully received. The total amount raised was £2,100, making it £700 for each charity.

A massive thank you to everyone involved: entertainers, organisers, Chilton Club management board, bar staff and most importantly the people who all gave so generously.

Meanwhile, the Macmillan Coffee Morning on 29 September was very well attended and raised £472. People donated cakes, scones as well as homemade calendars, there was Christmas cards, decorations, and jewellery also on sale.

Thank you again to those who attended, and enjoyed the social aspect of the morning.
