As part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Michael Siddle, Mayor of Bishop Auckland encouraged residents and businesses to dress their windows with a Jubilee theme.
A number of residents and shop owners did just this and the Mayor spent Sunday morning looking at the entries and making the difficult decision of picking winners.
Sheila Roe was chosen as one of the best decorated property and wins a special Platinum Jubilee medal as does Claire Tate who had some great help from her niece Jorja.
Mayor Siddle said “It was fantastic to see how much effort some people had gone to with their houses and streets to make sure everyone enjoyed this historic event. I am sure people will be talking about it for many years to come.
“I picked the winners because of the individuality and creativity. It was so nice to see so much children involvement in the handmade decorations at some of the properties.
“Special thanks need to go to all the shop owners up and down Newgate Street and Fore Bondgate who went the extra mile with some fantastic creative displays. Bags of Joy had a Queen Vic pub tea pot on display, Labyrinth had a teddy bears jubilee picnic and the Mitre pub had window art of the queen enjoying a drink to name but a few.”
