Local Liberal Democrat Bill Thorkildsen is thanking his neighbours for choosing him as their new town councillor in the 8 June by-election. He won with 378 votes (68%) in the by-election for the Low Spennymoor and Tudhoe Grange ward, defeating Independent candidate Paul Humble who polled 181 votes (32%).
Bill said: “Thank you to everyone who placed their trust in me. I am honoured to serve our community and will work for everyone, whether or not they voted for me this time.”
Bill will be working closely with Dean Ranyard, Beckie Calder, and Martin Jones as part of the Spennymoor & Tudhoe Lib Dem team on the town council. He has already begun working with them to answer issues raised in his recent survey of local residents’ concerns.
“I will use this role to represent our concerns to Durham County Council, to landlords, and any other authorities shaping our life here,” he said. “We can stand up for our area to achieve positive change, even if we can’t always achieve miracles overnight.”
Town councillor and former mayor, Dean Ranyard said: “The result was a vindication of Bill’s campaign and the work that the team have been doing locally.”
