National firm Lovell Repairs and Maintenance has launched a new partnership with Bishop Auckland College to help young County Durham construction students build careers.
The company has become the new sponsor of the Plastering and Multi-Skill Workshop where young trainees hone their practical skills at the College’s Centre for Construction.
The firm’s support includes funding for new equipment and a donation of personal protective work gear for students. The company will also give timber and other construction materials to the workshop which is used by up to 50 students a week, including youngsters from local schools.
In the future, Lovell Repairs and Maintenance hopes to offer trade apprenticeships to construction students at the College as well as holding practical demonstrations and giving students careers advice and help with interview techniques to help them secure their first jobs. Lovell Repairs and Maintenance is a national maintenance specialist whose major schemes include a large-scale facilities management contract for the Solutions 4 North Tyneside (S4NT) consortium in North Tyneside.
Jason Howe, construction learning area manager at Bishop Auckland College said, “The response from Lovell Repairs and Maintenance has been outstanding. We’re very grateful for their support and proud to have formed this valuable link with a national company. It is hugely beneficial for our students to have the opportunity to learn directly from people working in the industry, make contacts with potential employers and broaden their knowledge and understanding.”
