Down to the wire

As we enter the final weekend of cricket in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Division One, Marske are assured of one of the promotion places to the Premier Division, with the second spot between Bishop Auckland and Seaton Carew.

Bishop are only one point ahead of their promotion rivals and their last game is at home to champions elect Marske. Bishop kept their slender advantage over Seaton Carew thanks to an emphatic win against Darlington 2nd X1, that condemned the Feethams club to relegation to Division 2.

The Darlington team were all back in the pavilion for only 98 runs with Ellis Horner taking his first 5 wicket haul of the season for 37 runs. Bishop reached the target comfortably with the loss of only one wicket, thanks to a first wicket partnership of 76 runs between James Alderson (33) and Ben Thompson who was undefeated on 47 runs. Bishop go into their final game knowing that a win would guarantee them a return to the top flight after an absence of two years.
