Bishop Auckland FC extracted full revenge for their early season home defeat at the hands of Shildon AFC by knocking their local rivals and the current holders out of the Durham Challenge Cup.

While their depleted rivals were able to survive relentless first half pressure, once the Two Blues found their way to goal through Amar Purewall in the 58th minute, the floodgates opened.

Although Shildon managed to created their first real opportunity while the game was still in the balance, ex-Bishop player Jack Blackford’s effort was deflected out for a corner.

Two minutes later Hume’s weak shot appeared to wrongfoot Jennison in the visiting goal to open up a two goal lead before two late goals, from Unuareokpa with his first for the club and Craig Moody two minutes from time, sealed a comprehensive win.

Bishops were also thankful that neither Shildon or second-place Easington, were able to capitalise as the league leaders dropped four points in their last two league matches.

A dramatic 3-3 draw at Whickham saw the Two Blues rescue a point from 2-0 and 3-1 down, while the side also came from behind to draw 1-1 at home against Blyth Town, albeit both goals came in the first half.

This weekend, in further cup action, Bishops will play host to Newton Aycliffe in the FA Vase before welcoming Crook Town in midweek barring any cup replay.
