Seconds fall to South Hetton as cricket season gets underway

Curtis ‘Boycott’ Bihari bowls to South Hetton’s openers after the side scored a dismal 60 all out.

Despite Friday night’s monsoon, the game at Mainsforth went ahead on Saturday. The second team hosted a strong South Hetton team for their first game of the season.

Skipper, Kieren Jowett (sponsored by Ferryhill Dynamos) lost the toss and were forced to bat first on a very damp and slow wicket. The Mainsforth openers struggled to get going and were both out cheaply in the first five overs. Despite some resistance from Jamie Appleby (sponsored by Marjorie Johns) and Curtis “Boycott” Bihari, the Mainsforth middle order collapsed without troubling the scores and they were all out for 60.

A quick turnaround and Mainsforth opening bowlers Curtis Bihari (sponsored by Little Land of Adventures) and Chris Reynard started well, often beating the bat but to no avail. Chris picked up two wickets as the South Hetton team looked to make light work of the poor Mainsforth total. Man of the Match Matthew Craddock took a super catch however.

South Hetton ran out clear winners in the end. A poor performance from the local team who look to bounce back next Saturday against Esh Winning. Mainsforth First team host Littletown on Saturday at Mainsforth Sports Complex, 1:30pm start.
